What Inspires and Drives Dr. Jacquie

If you want to know what inspires an innovative and experienced orthodontist and dentist like Dr. Jacquie, with one visit to her office you just may find yourself drawing some inspiration from her! From paving the way for women in the orthodontic field, to giving back to her community, INVENTING her own dental products and traveling the world in pursuit of her passion, Dr. Jacquie is more than your average orthodontist and dentist.

Dr. Jacquie’s Mission and Inspiration

Dr. Jacquie’s Mission has always been to brighten the world one smile at a time. She achieves this through educating her patients with what they need and creating her signature broad smile design, which she lectures all over the world about. Dr. Jacquie says, “What I do with my patients is the perfect balance between science and art.” She explains to her patients the science behind what is occurring throughout their treatment, while still showing the beauty of the individual in each case she creates.

Dr. Jacquie’s Most Rewarding Experiences

Dr. Jacquie’s most rewarding experience is one that she says she witnesses all the time when she removes a patient’s braces or finalizes their Invisalign orthodontic treatment. At the beginning of their treatment, when Dr. Jacquie evaluates a patient for the first time, she says that many patients don’t reveal their true self. Often, they are covering their mouth and hiding their smile. Dr Jacquie says, “The end of treatment is always the most rewarding when I witness how my patients sit up a little taller in my dental chair and become more confident, radiant and expressive. This feeling simply never gets old!”

Dr. Jacquie’s Favorite Events

There are so many events Dr. Jacquie enjoys being a part of, including Jorge Posada’s former craniosynostosis awareness foundation, autism awareness and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers run. Annually, Dr. Jacquie attends and participates in the Tunnel to Towers run through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel which is an event commemorating a firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11th and other heroes we lost that day. It helps build homes for wounded vets that fight for us and allow us to do what we love. This event is deemed to be her favorite due to the kindness, unity and love that New York City comes together and displays. Dr. Jacquie says, “It is an indescribable feeling knowing that I am doing something for the lives lost on 9/11 by helping to raise awareness and donations. My small commitment of time along with thousands of others adds up to the power of numbers – allowing us to make a real change.”

Being part of the Invisalign Prestigious Faculty Department

The Invisalign prestigious faculty department indicates that the orthodontist is among one of the most experienced Invisalign providers in the world offering their patients the best quality of care. Dr. Jacquie received this acknowledgement through hard work, perseverance, and expanding her vision. Her vision is to always push the limits on what to achieve next in order to heighten the orthodontic field. Dr. Jacquie says, “My favorite patients are the ones with smiles referred to me by other doctors asking me to treat them with Invisalign. It is a great compliment to have my colleagues believe in me and entrust their patients with me, my office and my team.”

Relationship with Invisalign and Traveling the World as an Invisalign Ambassador

After being the Director of the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Department at Boston University, Dr. Jacquie returned to New York to be with her family. Over the years, she opened several offices in Manhattan, Long Island, and in upstate NY and New Jersey. Dr. Jacquie enjoys the teaching aspect and says, “To teach is to learn twice. Being a professor, while having a clinical practice is having the best of both worlds because you can take real life experiences and apply them to your curriculum.” When she first came back to New York, she was interviewing at New York University (NYU) and Columbia University Dental School. At the time, she was also invited to present a study at Invisalign’s annual international orthodontic meeting. After the meeting, she was flown out to California to interview with Align Technology, Inc.’s prestigious faculty team and accepted the position, which allowed her to teach and certify dental and orthodontic students at NYU, Columbia, her alum B.U. and 44 other dental schools. Dr. Jacquie says, “Being a faculty member and brand ambassador for Invisalign was easy and fulfilling because I was able to discuss, teach and have brainstorming sessions with doctors and students all over the United States and the rest of the world. It’s something that comes naturally to me and therefore never consider is working.” Dr. Jacquie also says that she is grateful for learning about the logistical part of lecturing from what goes into standing in front of an audience to everything that goes on behind the scenes for her to be on the radio or Television. She says that being a brand ambassador allows her to travel and meet doctors, with all different types of schooling and training. It feels like she walks away with gaining more knowledge than she started her lecture with.

Being first female and youngest Director of Boston University’s Predoctoral Orthodontic Department

As being the first female and youngest Director of Boston University Dental School’s Predoctoral Orthodontic Department, Dr. Jacquie felt honored paving the way for women to follow her. She wants to be a beacon of hope for women to not feel intimidated to enter a world that has been for generations heavily influenced by men. “It is exhilarating to see the initial 15-20 percent of the dental school classes who were female when she started to being 50 percent (and some even more) filled with women,” Dr. Jacquie says. She feels so proud to see the influx of women in her field.

Past, Present and Future Experimental Studies

In the beginning of her career, Dr. Jacquie was asked to lecture and present her abstract to 1200 orthodontists and their teams in Las Vegas. She presented her abstract of a four-year double blind study on identical twins, comparing one twin being treated with tooth colored ceramic braces and the other with clear removable orthodontic trays. Dr. Jacquie compared the initial and final results, patient comfort level, chair time and overall orthodontic treatment time.
Currently, Dr. Jacquie is working on her own proprietary whitening dental product line. Dr. Jacquie says, “The two things I have heard repeatedly from my patients over the years of creating signature smiles is whitening doesn’t work or my teeth are so sensitive that I can’t go through with it.” She says that it has been two years in the making, with many trips to the lab to perfect it. Dr. Jacquie is calling the product line Dr. Smiles White and it will launch 2018. You can find more information out about it at www.drsmiles.com.

As the future goes on, paying it forward is what Dr. Jacquie is all about. She created a foundation called the The Dr. Smiles Foundation formed by her and her husband. It focuses on changing the world one smile at a time. It will provide dental services for those in need and focuses on anti-bullying efforts and will also have a Miles for Smiles run included in its 2018 initiatives.

WHY Haven’t YOU Had Invisalign Yet?

When it comes to braces, you can’t help but think about your appearance while wearing the orthodontic appliance in front of your friends or colleagues at work or school. Well, now you don’t have to worry. Here at Dr. Jacquie Smiles in NYC, we offer Invisalign! Invisalign patients in NYC, as well as Manhattan, Woodbury NY, Monroe NY, and Englewood Cliffs NJ, can enjoy the benefits of straightening their teeth with the most advanced clear aligner in the world and having the confidence to wear their orthodontic appliance in front of others at Dr. Jacquie Smiles. It’s just what the doctor ordered! So, why haven’t YOU had Invisalign yet?

Research and consultation

Backed by more than 20 years of research, Invisalign is the clear alternative to braces. In fact, more than 4 million patients have used this system for their orthodontic treatment. Dr. Jacqueline Fulop-Goodling is an Invisalign expert here at Dr. Jacquie Smiles, and offers a FREE CONSULTATION to go over your options. What do you have to lose?

Why Invisalign instead of braces?

Much like braces, Invisalign can fix the following orthodontic issues:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Overly-crowded teeth
  • Cross bite

Also, it is covered by most insurance plans. Your plan, along with the treatment process, is discussed during the initial consultation. Furthermore, the clear aligner system requires NO wires or brackets, giving patients more comfort. Here at Dr. Jacquie Smiles, Dr. Jacquie uses a digital scanner to create 3D images of your teeth. With this technology, she can map out a precise treatment plan with a set of aligners that are specifically meant for the patient. Another advantage is the fact that it can be removed for eating and to brush your teeth. And the best part, the aligners are virtually INVISIBLE! So why not?

Healthy treatment

Today, we are more health-conscious than ever before, however what’s not known by many is that orthodontic issues can lead to health problems. Straight teeth can alleviate issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and oral infections, and can also prevent even more health issues like heart disease or even a stroke.

Patient responsibility

With Invisalign comes responsibility. To ensure the best orthodontic treatment possible in NYC, the patient MUST: wear the aligners 20-22 hours per day, a new set of aligners must be switch every week (as you wear each set of aligners, your teeth will gently and gradually shift into place), and lastly, the aligners must be properly cleaned every day. Not performing these important tasks will result in treatment being unsuccessful and/or longer.
Invisalign is an effective and appropriate option for many patients in NYC who are looking to improve their appearance and their overall oral health.
